For the Techies
For those who want to understand a bit more of the techie stuff then the following is for you. Rype is made up of two separate components, one for the desktop and one for the Windows Mobile phone.
Firstly the desktop component works as a local software application that accesses centralised data from our servers. The reason we do this is so you get all the advantages of a rich client application (not browser based) while still benefiting from a centralised database.
The mobile component works slightly differently in that a local copy of the data is stored on the phone. We have designed the mobile version this way so that when you don't have a network connection for your phone you can still complete operate the application. When you are back within coverage you can synchronise your data back to the centralised server.
The Apple iPhone version is a browser based version of Rype. It requires a live internet connection from your iPhone.
.
Both the Desktop & Mobile are independent of each other allowing you to use one or both components depending on your business needs. The iPhone version however requires the desktop.
For those of you that prefer pictures, we've created a diagram to help you understand.
